- Students learn marimba and how to play together as a group, but more importantly how to be a good teammate, and how to be a great community member.
- Each session, we revisit concepts over and over through time; together with our students, we deepen our knowledge and experience through this spiral learning.
- Once or twice each year, students have the opportunity to bring a friend during our Bring-a-Friend week and learn the #songoftheseason during our One Song, Once Community campaign.
- On the rare occasion, classes are invited to perform at our concert series concerts, but all student groups are invited to play at our annual Spring Student Festival in May.

We believe that rhythm and music are an inherent part of human nature and that each of us has the ability to uncover this nature. We believe that YOU have musical ability and ARE a musical person. We are committed to giving you an opportunity to experience music and its many uplifting, joyous, and healing qualities–no matter your age or previous experience. Scroll down for the details on upcoming classes!
We offer classes for all ages and levels of ability. In general, adult students start in our introductory classes and progress with their class through our skill and song levels.
Kutandara’s adult marimba class provided me with an opportunity for musical joy, accomplishment, creativity, and community in an otherwise dark and difficult time in my life. Thank you!

At various points in this process, there will be opportunities for additional growth; as ability and experience grow in each student, so do the opportunities.
At the end of each session, students share with friends and family what they have achieved in an informal concert. Even our most introductory classes and students are able to play a song or two…and feel proud of their achievements together!
I began studying marimba at Kutandara a year after suffering a traumatic brain injury that rendered me unable to work temporarily. Although I cannot claim that marimba cured me, it certainly helped! The camaraderie of the class and the community at Kutandara helped me find my new normal.
